News Release - For Immediate Release Chicago, Illinois - May 8, 2007 Robert J. Kinsella, president of Chicago-based Kinsella Group, a boutique investment bank and business advisory group, has been nominated to serve on the Board of Directors of the new Chicago China Development Corporation (CCDC). The Board will be chaired by Mayor Richard M. Daley of Chicago. The CCDC is a public-private, not-for-profit corporation created to help Chinese companies expand into the United States and to assist Chicago companies in China. The corporation, to be chaired by Mayor Daley, will be overseen by a board of directors of Chicago-area business leaders - including Mr. Kinsella. The new Executive Director of the CCDC's China office is John C. Thomson, a former diplomat who was selected for the position after an extensive, international search. Mr. Thomson will be based in Shanghai, China, where he will open the CCDC Shanghai office and oversee the corporation's diverse public- and business-relations initiatives. Mayor Daley has been a tireless advocate of increased and improved business and cultural exchanges between the City of Chicago and the People's Republic of China. The CCDC is the formal culmination of a number of programs, official visits and other events designed to promote business development between the city and China. In 2004, Mayor Daley was accompanied by a delegation of Chicago business, financial and educational leaders, including Mr. Kinsella, on a visit to China. The idea of the CCDC and its Shanghai office was first discussed during this visit and subsequent exchanges between Mayor Daley and Mayor Han Zheng of Shanghai. The initiative was further supported by recent research conducted by Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management and the Chicago Council on Global Affairs, which determined that Chinese investors view Chicago as a strong business center, but that the city needed to do a better job of communicating its strengths as a business-friendly city. Mr. Kinsella and the Board of Directors of the CCDC represent key community stakeholders in the new initiative. Following formal approval of Board membership, the Board will oversee the activities of the corporation and the China office's Executive Director in pursuit of a number of objectives, including promoting Chicago as an attractive destination for Chinese businesses; generating opportunities for Chinese investment in Chicago; interfacing with Chicago's business, educational, and cultural entities to facilitate communication with Chinese business and government leaders; and facilitating penetration and growth of Greater Chicago business interests in China. Mr. Kinsella, President and Mr. Bernard Filler, Managing Director, Asia Practice of Kinsella Group have particular expertise advising U.S. and Chinese clients on the intricacies of cross-border merger, acquisition and joint-venture transactions.
